The Library is funded by the City of Big Timber and Sweet Grass County, Montana. It serves a countywide population of 3650. An agency of the City of Big Timber, the Library is governed by a five member Board of Trustees, four of whom are appointed by the Big Timber City Council and one of whom is appointed by the Sweet Grass County Commissioners. Our operating budget this year is $104,694. Our collection numbers more than 20,000 items, including books, magazines, pamphlets, audio and visual materials, and online resources. Six public access computer workstations and two Netbooks are available for use free of charge. The Library is open 43 hours per week year round, with one full time director and one full time assistant. The Carnegie Public Library is a member of the South Central Federation of Montana Libraries and of the Montana Shared Catalog.
